This week I put my critical Digital Literacy skills to use by searching on information about internet safety issues.
I will be looking at Overreliance on AI which basically is overdependence on Artificial Intelligence technologies that when not restricted becomes an addiction. Although AI is useful it also comes with its negative side. I narrowed down to the use of AI in different fields and the impacts.
Education
I know a lot of people will disagree and state that AI can be useful when giving ideas and examples but can we think critically?According to Springer Article (2024), overriliance starts when we accept Ai to generate content without questioning it's validity. Oftenly Ai work can be detected due to Plagiarism. Therefore if we allow Ai to do all the tasks for us,then what is the reason for still going to school?If we become overly dependent on AI then we lose our critical and analytic thinking. AI should be used as a guidance tool not content generator.
Health
Is it not funny how one day you wake up and look up symptoms you have to know what you might be ailing from and there is always a disease related to the symptoms? AI in the healthcare sector is a high risk of misdiagnosis.Doctors raised concerns that they fear AI might take away their jobs, as AI are considered more efficient and fast but putting in minds errors associated with it.
Romance /Relationships
This is one topic most of us are not ready to talk about. Awareness on AI and relationships is not clear and hardly spoken about.Youth ,teenagers and elderly especially men tend to fall victims.According to Witney Wolfer who is the Bumble dating app founder , AI is essential as it improves dating suggestions by matching people and hopes in future AI will provide advices and if possible engage in conversations on user's behalf.
A well known chatbot Replika that is designed to give emotion stability and create a personalized response and regarded a genuine connection of emotions. Replika tends to be used by people who feel lonely and socially exculeded. They believe Replika is far better than an AI as it engages with them and encourages and listens.
I went futher and looked for a source on the same issue which i will use the CRAP method to critically evaluate the article.

Summary review of the article.
The article is written by Neil Sahota on (July 18th, 2024) from The Guardian. Amelia is a known author who advocates for the LGBTQ+ community.She goes ahead to interview people who have been in relationships to get their point of view.She gets to understand that people prefer AI partners because they are non-judgemental with no drama. Most people turn to AI because they feel disconnected and Lonely and they can also have deeper conversations without limits.one of the interviewee reveals that he finds Replika more satisfying than online porn.I also get to learn about Alexa that was introduced to the world a year later after a film called 'Her' was released.The article covers the negative sides of AI. Dating apps is at the highest risk of catfishing for people who are looking for financial gain.AI can also create sexists behaviour which are not safe for children that no one talks about.Amelia mention about a man who took his own life because Chat box encouraged him.
This tells us how deep we have been rooted to AI to the point we follow orders it gives.

I found the CRAP evaluation method easy and simple to use.I tried to use PROMPT but it was complex and was not suitable since my article was from The Guardian news paper.
Conclusion
Awareness on AI should be created. Children should be informed and be warned about the negative side of it. Although AI is useful we should not allow it to take control and direct us. Use of AI should be limited.
