In recent times I’ve been putting my critical digital
literacy skills to use by researching information regarding internet issues. I
have decided to look at the problem around an overreliance on AI regarding
education use.
Overreliance of AI is when students have a reliance on
companies such as Chat GPT or Grammarly writing assist and others like these trusting
the results given, without double checking facts or understanding what they are
submitting, which can result in students with larger plagiarism issues when submitting
work.
This is becoming a more apparent issue with the way technology
is developing and evolving at a rapid pace in the 21st century. Also, because people don’t fact check
means they can be supplying misinformation or talking to bots when believing they
are talking to real people. It can also affect teachers by undermining their abilities
and doesn’t encourage students to be critical thinkers.(2024).Overreliance occurs
through people not being bothered to dig further into research and others just
wanting to submit work without understanding the concept of the work they have
completed. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/double-edged-sword-examining-dangers-overreliance-ai-lesson-chian-yaaqc
This is mainly caused through people needing to get fast
responses and not wanting to research or are just trusting in what they read.
In terms of it in education its caused through teachers if they use a premade
plan on an AI system means its not suited to people not understanding the work
fully.
The article I’ve chosen is Balonwu, P. (2024, April
9). The Dark Side of AI in Education: Are Students Losing Their
Critical Thinking Skills? Medium. https://medium.com/@info_92476/the-dark-side-of-ai-in-education-are-students-losing-their-critical-thinking-skills-f3c37c80a398
I have chosen to use the CRAAP which is shown in this video.
The reason I chose to use this method is because I understand this method best
and it helps me understand the article best.
