Alarms
and Social Media
I use my phone most right before I start getting ready in the morning. I have several alarms set on it in the morning to wake me up so I can get ready for work. I usually set them a bit earlier than I need to so that I can have time in bed to scroll through social media and respond to any notifications I received overnight. Instagram is the main social media platform I use. It is a way to share videos and photos of activities, hobbies or events, as well as sharing memes and reels with friends. When I’m driving to work, I connect my phone to my car so that I can listen to my music on Spotify which is a digital music platform that gives access to millions of songs from musicians all over the world.

Work
Once I get to work, I use technology all day. We have a medical practice software program called ‘Genie’ on the computer which according to Tech Help Direct (2024) is one of Australia’s largest practice management software. It has features that help reception staff, nurses and doctors to perform their jobs efficiently. This holds all of the patients’ files and doctors’ diaries so we can keep track of their appointments. The admin team use email as a way to contact each other when there is something that needs to be done, and as my job has several locations, we use phones to keep in touch with each other and our patients to provide any updates. Payments are taken through an EFTPOS machine, and then Genie is used on the computer to process the payments, send them through to Medicare when necessary, and create their receipts.
Keeping
in Touch
As I live
away from my family and friends, I use my phone to keep in touch with them
regularly. Snapchat is an app that you can communicate to friends in pictures and
once they open the message you send them, the photo disappears. There are many
other aspects of technology that I use in my day-to-day life that are so normal
for me that I don’t actually notice that I’m using it. This can include
streaming movies or tv shows on my television, online shopping, and using my
smartphone to pay for everything.
